I love, love, love when the days are longer...and we can linger outside for hours....the sun sets in such golden elegance..slowly falling in a magical mix of colors over the meadows and mountains....I wander about..sometimes with a glass of wine....usually with Gus by my side and a small flock of chickens following us around....last night I had to grab my camera...Gus and I took turns snapping away at things that caught our eye....I get a bit greedy with my camera..but he gets so excited to use it I always give in. That clematis is a Josephine ..one of my favorite varieties. The pinks in it are devastatingly luscious! I love the idea of the clematis mingling along the fence with the climbing roses.
I had a rite of passage last weekend when I planted 2 olive trees given to me by a dear friend that lives close by. Yeah, ok for the record......I did a little dance and blew kisses toward the mountains once they were in the ground....
We are smitten by the cactus garden we put in last summer..it has a long way to go for sure...but look at all the new babies on this mama...( those brighter greens paddles along the entire top are all new winter growth!! wa-hooo!) I have much to learn and read up on regarding cacti...but so far they are really easy...and so cool to watch grow so quickly! Are you a cacti queen......? I never was.....just didn't do it for me...but now...I cannot stop....I'm love-struck!
Gus is an awesome garden helper..he loves watering, never minds the mud squishing between his toes, and loves to soak me now and then. Thanks to some of my lovely and generous family members I got a few climbing rose bushes for my birthday....! Our ground here is really clay like and tough to dig into but man.....I can go for hours knowing what's to come soon with these dancing queens. ( can you say new rose bush collector...yeah...I can....holy smokes, can I!!!)
The hens are a year old now...they are flirty little mamas...always striking a pose....lively souls! We lock them in their coop at night, but every morning the boys go down to let them out, and feed them..and yes..collect eggs! This is our bossiest mama..but she'll still let you reach under her for eggs...
It was just a bit after 7:00 pm when I snapped this shot...something about looking towards the mountains gives me a really free feeling....they are endlessly romantic...right now they are covered in wildflowers...poppies and lupines en mass....wild and wayward indeed!
My garden bench has become a bit of a roost for the hens as well. They fight and razz one another....a true ruckus everyday, over the basket....its filled with old coiled ropes and everyday they lay a clutch of new eggs in it.
The broccolini is ready to pick, its so sweet you can snap it off and graze as you are walking by, even the leaves are delicious to nibble at....I pulled most of them out in December but this one just looked so good that I left her there.
A dash of eden is good...get outside if you can. No matter where you live there is always something lovely to look at..in any season....if you are willing to take a minute and really look.
Sending you fragrant thoughts!
