We have a house chicken. Since we live in California our doors are wide open all day everyday, which I love! No screens...so the animals wander in from time to time. We started noticing one chicken in particular coming in everyday and just lingering. We'd find her on a chair, or in one of the kids rooms on a desk, or perched on a buffet...just happy as can be. Then I started to find her in the laundry room sitting on the counter in a basket! One day , about a month ago our son Sigerson brought me an egg...yep..from the laundry room! We named her "kitchen" early on when she starting hanging out in the house though it seems she should instead be re- named laundry . The doors to the house are not opened up until mid morning when it warms up outside...I will typically throw a load of laundry in while the kids are getting ready for school...now our chicken"kitchen" waits at the door just outside the laundry room and pecks at the glass and squawks until someone opens the door, then she walks right by..hops up onto the sock bin, then onto the counter and plunks herself down in the basket next to the dog bones. Once she has laid her egg she lets herself out later when all the doors are open. If no one lets her by the laundry room she walks in through the other-side of the house where the french door are open, the kids crack up as she has our house perfectly navigated..she know EXACTLY where she is going...the mission being the laundry room to lay her egg. She lays one per day..a small pretty tan one. I had this fantasy when I was a kid..sort of a Dr.Doolittle thing...I had always hoped all of our animals could roam freely on our countryside property and wander in and out of the house at liberty....well....I guess dreams really can come true!
Cheers + magical happenings...
